About Us

Who We Are

Listening Post is a professional voluntary counselling service, Christian in foundation, formed in 1991 to relieve emotional and psychological distress.

We are an organisational member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy and work within their Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions; you can visit us at the Counselling Directory here. We provide counselling for anyone over 18.

We serve any resident of Gloucestershire, including those who might otherwise be financially prevented from accessing professional counselling support. Private counselling can cost upwards of £50 an hour – a cost that many people desperately in need cannot afford. Unlike private practitioners, we do not charge a set fee for our services. All we ask is that, based upon individual means, our clients make a donation per session*.

* We recommend a minimum donation of £20 towards the cost of your session, if you can afford to do so. However, we recognise that this is impossible for some and support is available, on request, to subsidise your session.

Meet the Trustees

Ron Storey

Chair

Ron has lived across the country working in various companies, largely in leadership training and development roles; in more recent years, he has been a self-employed Business Psychologist and Coach. He previously served as a local School Governor and Trustee of a small global charity with operational hubs across Asia. Now ‘officially’ retired, Ron still provides occasional professional help and coaching informally, but also enjoys walking, travel and sharing good food. Like many, throughout life Ron has experienced significant challenges, including bereavement, redundancy and feelings of isolation. Being supported by individuals and groups along the way, he knows the value that Listening Post brings to local people and communities. He joined the board of trustees in 2024, and in July 2026 took over the role of Chair.

Robert Kingston

Treasurer

Robert retired after spending most of his working life in finance within the public sector, with his roles over the years covering fraud investigation, financial accounting, and Company Tax inspections. Robert has used his financial background in a voluntary capacity to serve as a school governor and charity trustee no fewer than 10 times! He is the founder of local Christian charity Gloucester Street Pastors, where he still chairs the board. His life experience has made him an enthusiastic supporter of the positive difference Listening Post makes to people’s lives.

Pauline Bayliss-Jones

Trustee

As the wife of a clergy, Pauline lived all over the UK and abroad on various RAF bases. As her children grew up, she pursued her dream of teaching and developed a passion for Special Education. Settling in Gloucestershire, she took a role at a Specialist College – initially for a year – loving it so much that she stayed for twenty-two! During this time, she completed a Masters, progressed into leadership and became Principal, before retiring in 2019. A major trauma in 2005 saw her rediscover hope through long-term counselling. Blessed by her own experience, she has since trained as an Integrative Counsellor and cherishes supporting others to find healing from complex trauma.
