“I was in a very dark place when I first started with Listening Post….”
Listening Post exists to bring light and hope into lives across Gloucestershire, through providing access to professional counselling that is both affordable and accessible.
Over 400 local people turn to us every year in need of support for their mental and emotional health. Counselling is not available on public health care, meaning that unless someone is able to afford £50+/session for a private practitioner, without Listening Post, hundreds of people would have no-where to turn.
This Christmas, your donation, however small, can bring light and life to someone struggling with their mental health in our local community.
…I’ve come a long way since. I’m stronger, more emotionally stable, able to deal with situations better and realise I need to take care of myself not just others.”
To cover all of the costs we face as a small charity, this works out at roughly £36 per counselling session we provide. Our 100+ volunteer counsellors give over 7000 sessions every year.
We do not receive any funding from the government to provide our service. The average client contribution is around £12. We only ever ask for a contribution of what someone can afford, even if that really is nothing at all. We don’t means test; we take people at their word. But this means that we need to fundraise an average of £24 per session that we provide.
Our goal is to always be there for someone in need of support, whatever their financial background. We never want to be in a position where we have to turn someone away due to lack of funds.
